‘She Said’ Wins LA Press Club’s Veritas Award

The Los Angeles Press Club is thrilled to announce the winner of its 8th annual Veritas Award for Best Film Based on or Inspired by Real Events and People. This award is judged by the 1,000-member strong LAPC — based equally upon fidelity of subject matter and artistic excellence.

The 2023 winner is She Said, produced and distributed by Universal Pictures.

The movie depicts New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor breaking the Harvey Weinstein story that shattered decades of silence around the subject of sexual assault in Hollywood.

“It is such an honor for She Said to receive the Los Angeles Press Club’s 2023 Veritas Award. With the Award celebrating works of Truth it feels apt and brilliant that it is honoring the investigative journalism of Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey. Their unstoppable pursuit of the truth was in turn made possible by the incredible bravery of those who spoke out. This amazing collective, together, tore down decades of silence and lies,” said screenwriter Rebecca Lenkiewicz.

She Said is based on The New York Times investigation and the book “She Said” written by Jodi Kantor, Megan Twohey and Rebecca Corbett. The movie is directed by Maria Schrader and stars Zoe Kazan and Carey Mulligan.

The Los Angeles Press Club honored Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey with its Impact Award for their intrepid work at the 2017 National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Award.

She Said shined light on the important work that journalists do and the hurdles and pressure they face,” Los Angeles Press Club President Lisa Richwine said. “We hope it will inspire reporters to tackle tough stories.”

Past winners were Spotlight, Hidden Figures, The Post, Green Book, BombshellTrial of the Chicago 7 and King Richard.

The runner-up was Elvis.
